NEW YORK - An anonymous bidder won the chance to have lunch with legendary investor Warren Buffett this year with a record-breaking bid of 3,456,789 dollars in an online charity auction.

According to Glide, the San Francisco-based anti-poverty organization which benefits from the auction, there were 10 active bidders among the more than 110 inquires into the auction on eBay.

The 13th annual auction, which helps the poor and homeless, began Sunday and closed at 10:30 p.m. local time Friday. In the previous 12 auctions, Buffett has raised more than 11.5 million dollars for the organization.

The winning bids in the previous four years all exceeded 2 million dollars and each was a record. Both the 2011 and 2010 auctions were won by Ted Weschler, a former managing partner of Peninsula Capital Advisers. He paid 2,626,411 dollars last year and was hired by Buffett after the multi-million-dollar meal last summer.

As usual, the winner this year will get the chance to have lunch with the legendary head of Berkshire Hathaway investment group and seven friends at his favorite steak restaurant in New York.
