TEHRAN - The 2nd round of Iranian parliamentary elections began on Friday morning, with some 48 million voters eligible to choose candidates for the remaining 65 seats in the parliament.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cast his ballot shortly after the voting started at 8 am (0330 GMT).

Khamenei called on the Iranians to "take the second round of the (parliamentary) elections seriously as they did with the first round."

The Iranian leader asked people for high turnout on Friday.

In the first round of the elections held on March 2, 225 out of the 290 seats were filled and the fate of 65 others will be decided in the run-off contests with 130 candidates.
