MALE - The Maldives police to record a statement from former president Mohamed Nasheed who had been gathering public protests since he was step down from the presidency last week, a spokesman said.
The Police Spokesman Ahamed Shyam said that a time and a place had been requested from ex-president who claimed he was ousted in a military coup, according to a record statement. Though Nasheed is accused for a series of allegations, the statement is to be recorded on the arrest of a criminal court judge and detaining him, for which he is also facing a warrant.
"We have requested former president for a place, date and a time to meet him to record a statement on the complaint by the judge" Shyam said.
Since last Tuesday's power transfer to his vice present Mohammed Waheed, Nasheed has been demanding for a fresh presidential election.
With weeks of protests and violence, newly appointed President Waheed has pledged to restore peace and order in the country. While the United States and the United Nation have expressed their commitment to work with the new Maldivian multi-party administration.
