腐败高发区 (fubai gaofaqu): Area with high incidence of corruption

(China Daily) Updated: 2015-04-14 07:28

Gao Jinsong, the Party chief of Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, is under investigation because of "serious violations of Party discipline and national laws". It is noteworthy that the two predecessors of Gao, former Kunming Party leaders Zhang Tianxin and Qiu He, have also been investigated for the same reason. The anti-corruption campaign has frequently exposed serial corruption in positions with power.

Officials in a particular position being brought down because of corruption is not unique to Kunming. For instance, three Party leaders and three directors of the public security bureau of Taiyuan, capital city of North China's Shanxi province, have successively been investigated.

The frequent fall of corrupt officials occupying the same position shows that the anti-corruption campaign is an all-round move that corrupt officials can hardly escape from. It also reflects that discipline inspection organizations should keep an eye on positions where corruption has already been uncovered.

Officials in power-intensive and resource-intensive positions, such as public security and transportation, are more likely to abuse their power for personal gain, according to the anti-corruption watchdog. And it is notable that the bribers are always the same batch of people. Therefore, it is crucial to fight against bribery as well.
