I don't think arranged marriages have any advantages - at least not in the long term.

However, I do think it is important to have a harmonious family life - and therefore, it is crucial that all family members are tolerant and support each other. So if my child brought back someone I didn’t like at the beginning, I'd try to understand what is fascinating him or her about this person rather than trying to part them. If my child's significant someone is really such a dork, they'll break up sooner or later anyway.

Can an arranged marriage ever work?

Engaged couple Alex Pelling and Lisa Gant have set off to travel the world in a quest to find their favourite - and most unique - wedding destination; getting 'hitched' at each location along the way. The couple began their adventure with their first wedding in West Didsbury, Manchester. They are hoping to visit up to 30 countries and are hoping to hold at least one wedding in every one of them.
