Can cross-cultural relationships work?

And I don't always buy the "difficult cultures can't work together" argument. I think the boundaries are normally imposed by people's fears, rather than different attitudes conflicting. Normally we're not attracted to the kind of people that annoy us. That doesn't mean there aren't differences, but it's pretty strange if they have the kind of personality that you can't get along with.

Thinking back to a long relationship I had with a Chinese girl, I can't say as that there were any "cultural problems". We got on great. She used to say that I was becoming like a Chinese guy more and more every day, but I think she just realized that there wasn't much of a difference between the two of us as time went on. In fact she changed her attitude to some things herself as a result of being with me, so you can say that shows a mixing of different beliefs and backgrounds can have positive spin-offs.
