Amid recent sex-abuse allegations involving schools, China must protect its children, said an article in People's Daily (excerpts below).

Many countries have laws and regulations to prevent children from being violated and China must take these into account when drawing up legislation to ensure the safety of children.

Megan's Law in the US is one such example and in the Republic of Korea, since 2011, chemical castration has been applied to adults who sexually assault those aged 16 or lower.

Education is another way that helps. In France and other countries children are taught about the dangers of predators.

Society as a whole can and must contribute. Some children who have been victims and their families may be reluctant to come forward out of a misguided sense of shame.

Society must extend a hand and help in every way to lessen the trauma.
