China can overcome all external 'troubles'

China's fast increasing strength in the past decade has made its rise irresistible. Even so, the country is faced with more and more troubles at home and abroad.

China is certainly capable of responding to and overcoming all sorts of difficulties, says an article in People's Daily. Excerpts:

It is necessary to understand that these troubles are the result of China's development and progress. China's fast development has dramatically changed the international balance of power, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

Japan became the world's second-largest economy in 1968. Even so, China's GDP surpassed Japan's in 2010. Many Japanese have been shocked by this shift.

Such changes can lead to restlessness, anxiety and even fear. That's just part of human nature.

The United States has adopted a so-called rebalancing policy, saying it will "return to Asia" and deploy 60 percent of its Navy warships in the Pacific region by 2020. Obviously, the US' eastward shift is related to China's rise.

Peace and development are now the theme of the day. But a lot of people still look upon China's development with a Cold War mentality. To deal with current difficulties, we must take into account the ways in which the world has changed.

The late national leader Deng Xiaoping once said that international disputes should be settled in ways that accord with current circumstances and problems, and that new solutions should be adopted.

Today, in dealing with problems concerning the Diaoyu Islands and the South China Sea, China is faced with a series of more acute and urgent difficulties.

Supported by the US, some of China's neighbors want to infuriate China and disrupt China's development.

Faced with various incidents of external "harassment", we are not only increasingly emboldened, but also have more means and new ideas at our disposal.

China is a peace-loving country and will unswervingly hold high the banner of peace, development and cooperation. China is also absolutely not afraid of provocation. History has proved and will continue to prove that China is capable of properly responding to all kinds of troubles and resolving a variety of problems.
