Q+A

Star talk series: Tang WeiWhat would do if you weren't an actress?

Maybe I would open a noodle shop and make it cozy and comfortable for everyone. Many girls dream of opening a bookstore, cafe, restaurant or flower store, and I share the dream, too.

Star talk series: Tang WeiWhat do you appreciate most in a man?

Concentration, something I lack now. Men who give full attention to what they are doing, however trivial, is charming and wise to me. I think so, what do you think?

Star talk series: Tang WeiIf you could change one thing about your looks or character, what would it be?

What I have been trying to do is to concentrate. I find it hard. In this era when information is so fast and enormous, young people don't concentrate, and this is intolerable in acting. I hope one day I can fully focus on the thing I am doing, be it acting, an interview, or life.

Star talk series: Tang WeiOf what are you proudest?

Every step I have taken was my own choice. I have not done anything that I regret as of now. I am very glad that I have followed the voice at the bottom of my heart, never in a hurry, or delaying. More...

I used to worry it might be hard for Tang Wei to play such an outspoken, noisy and sometimes annoying girl, because she is known for her gracefulness. But she has demonstrated her professionalism and diligence.
--- Xue Xiaolu, director of Finding Mr. Right

What impresses me most is her dedication. She did not have much acting skill at first, but improved gradually as filming went on. It was difficult for me to teach her, but in the end she did  a good job, which made me feel very accomplished.

---Ang Lee, in an earlier interview on her performance in Lust, Caution

She performed in the two-hour workshop presentation of A Dream Like a Dream when I taught at the Central Academy of Drama, in 2001. Though her skills were not complete at the time, it was obvious to me she was special and I told her so. To this day I still see the same traits that have made her a star - purity of expression and dedication to the art.

                             ---Stan Lai, theater director
