China marks anti-Japanese war victory

Several major cultural activities are planned to mark the 70th anniversary of victory in the anti-Japanese war.

An exhibition at the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance against Japanese Aggression opened on Tuesday entitled "Great Victory Historical Contribution". It includes 1,170 photos and 2,834 items covering politics, the military, diplomacy, people's livelihoods, the Japanese army’s atrocities and Chinese people's defiance during the war.

A variety show will be staged on September 3 and there will be a tour of plays and operas with the theme of the anti-Japanese war between August and October. About 70 plays and operas will be performed in eight areas around the country.

Ten movies, 12 TV series, 20 documentaries and three animated cartoons as well as 100 books with the theme of the anti-Japanese war have been approved for display during the second half of the year.

A series of written confessions of Japanese war criminals will be published from August which will total more than 100 books in all. Part of the contents will be published on the official website of the administration between August 1 and 31.

In addition, the administration will publish an account by the US military observation group in July, 1944, and a record of the war of resistance by the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army.

The plans were announced in a press conference by the Information Office of the State Council on Monday. Vice minister of the Ministry of Culture Dong Wei, deputy director of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Tian Jin, deputy director of the State Archives Administration Li Minghua and deputy director of the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance against Japanese Aggression Li Zongyuan presented the conference.
