Oscar's new contender: William Cheung

William Cheung, a long-time collaborator of Wong Kar-wai, is a versatile man. He is acquainted with the fine arts, wardrobe design, film editing and stage arts. He also happens to be a productive film producer who has worked on almost 40 films, such as Ho Yim's Red Dust, Stan Lai's The Peach Blossom Land, Hark Tsui's The Legend of Zu, Yimou Zhang's The Flowers of War, and Wen Jiang's Let the Bullets Fly. As a premier person in the film industry, Cheung has won a number of awards, including The Hong Kong Film Award and Golden Horse Award. In 2002, he gained a Technical Grand Prize for In the Mood for Love at the 53rd Cannes International Film Festival. However, Cheung has yet to win an Academy Award. This year, his old partner Wong Kar-wai helped him receive a nomination for Best Costume Design from Wong's film The Grandmaster. We hope that Cheung will be successful on Oscar night this year.
