Eco-friendly in wuhan: quick facts

Nearly 40,000 clients have chosen green funerals in Wuhan.

All 15 public cemeteries offer green funeral services.

Wuhan started promoting green funerals in 1997. That year, only five families chose the service.

Xiaoen Grave Yard on Longquan Mountain has provided the service to more than 4,700 clients.

From 1997 to 2006, only 600 clients chose the tree funeral at Xiaoen Grave Yard. The number grew by a factor of eight over the following decade.

Initially, the tree funeral at Xiaoen was "one tree, one spot". In 2009, the cemetery upgraded its policy and offered a family package of "one tree, eight spots", to save land and expense.

On March 5, Wuhan's civil affairs bureau announced that the government will cover all costs for future green funerals.
