Mother cycles 2,000 km in search for son

A 63-year-old woman spent nearly one month cycling about 2,000 kilometers from Zhengzhou, Henan province, to Xiamen, a major coastal city in Fujian province, in a search for her missing son, local newspaper Orient Today reported on Friday.

The woman, Wang Yuqin, found her son soon after her arrival in Xiamen.

The woman said her fellow cyclists encouraged her and helped her find her son.

XiaoLu (not his real name), the son, resigned from a bank and went into business in 2008, but it did not go smoothly and he suffered from depression, and left home in 2010.

Two years later, he returned to visit his sick father and said he worked in a shoe factory in Xiamen. He also brought home a pair of shoes the factory manufactured. He left two months later and told his family not to look for him.

Wang’s husband died of cancer in January 2013.

In March this year, Wang, an amateur cyclist, rode to Xiamen with seven other cyclists.

She eventually found her son with the help of local media and the police in Xiamen.

Her son, moved by his mother’s determination and efforts, decided to go home with her. He was admitted to a hospital in Zhengzhou for treatment and is recovering well, the report said.
