President of Sanjing Pharm jumps to death

HARBIN - Liu Zhanbin, president of the Sanjing Pharmaceuticals jumped to his death from a hospital window on Sunday, the company said in a statement on Monday.

Liu was put under investigation by the procurator of Heihe City on Friday, on suspicion of corruption. On Sunday, Liu claimed to be sick and was taken to a hospital in Xunke County. During the medical examination, he got away from his guards and jumped from a third floor restroom window and died.

Liu had held the general meeting of stockholders on Thursday, according to a resolution notice of the shareholders meeting.

The company statement said the incident had caused no major impact on Sanjing.

The predecessor of Sanjing is Chinese state-owned enterprise, Harbin third pharmaceutical factory, which was founded in 1950. Its parent company, Harbin Pharmaceutical Group, is China's second-biggest drug maker by market value.
