Knife-wielding man kills 6 in Beijing

BEIJING - A 34-year-old man stabbed six people to death with a knife at noon on Thursday at a village of Beijing's Huairou district, police said.

Police received a call at 12:48 pm and arrested the suspect surnamed Zhao. He allegedly attacked an unknown number of people with a knife at Wanghua village of the suburban district following a family property dispute, said a statement issued by the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Other people were also injured and have been taken to hospital, it said.

Their injuries are unknown.

According to his family members, Zhao had a history of mental illness, said the statement.

Police are investigating.
