The 3-story house of a villager in Huai'an, Jiangsu province, was removed in what police said was a mistake, Yangtze Evening News reported on Tuesday.

Yang Mei, a farmer in Nanmachang township, found her house had been demolished on March 19 without her knowledge or any prior notice.

Yang said two years ago, she and a neighbor were told their houses would be demolished in October 2012, but were not told why and then the demolition plan was suspended.

After the demolition, Yang reported the case to the local police station. After investigation, the police told Yang her house was demolished by a company that was supposed to demolish the house next to Yang's.

However, Yang did not believe what the police said and suspected the demolition was organized by the township government, which planned to carry out projects in the area.

The government said it did not know who was responsible for the demolition and Yang has asked for a further investigation.
