Suspected food poisoning at a kindergarten in Southwest China's Yunnan province has killed two children and left dozens of others hospitalized, the People's Daily newspaper reported.

The incident began on Wednesday when a child was found sprawled on the floor at 3:20 pm at Jia Jia Kindergarten in Qiubei county. Later, 32 more children were found to be ill with the same symptoms.

So far, two 5-year-old girls, Yang Ziyi and Zhou Yulin, have died, despite medical treatment. Five severely poisoned students are under emergency care at nearby Wenshanzhou Hospital.

The local government said they will spare no efforts to save the poisoned children.

Immediately after the incident, authorities started public health contingency plans and conducted food safety inspections at all kindergartens, primary and middle schools in Qiubei county.

The cause of the food safety incident is under investigation by the local public security department.
