Yunnan villagers attack police station

KUNMING - Nearly 100 villagers attacked a local police station in Southwest China's Yunnan province on Friday afternoon over an environmental dispute.

Three people were injured, including two government employees and a villager, local authorities said.

A statement from Guangnan County's publicity office said around 100 villagers from Baha village in Babao Town of the county raided Babao police station at 12:50 pm.

Three villagers were summoned to the police station in the morning because of damage caused to factory facilities, it said.

On Feb 3, around 100 Baha villagers destroyed manufacturing facilities of Jiangnan iron and alloy factory over an environmental dispute, the statement said.

The injured people are receiving treatment and the situation is under control, it added.
