Chinese tourist dies in Bali, Indonesia

JAKARTA - A Chinese girl having holiday in Indonesia's tourist resort of Bali island died in Tanah Lot of the island on Tuesday after she fell into the waters and was swept away by waves, local police said.

The accident occurred at mid day when Tan Jia Tong and her parent were taking photos as she suddenly slipped and went down into the water, said Nyoman Suardike, police officer in charge at Kediri district police office, the closest police station to the scene.

"Then she was swept away by big waves. Lifeguards soon rushed to rescue her, then, she was found, but already dead," he told Xinhua by phone from the district.

Tan's body was rushed to Tabanan Hospital, according to the police officer.

"I received the body of Tan Jia Tong of about 11 years old at about 12 o'clock here, she was sent from the health clinic in Tanah Lot," Nyoman Tari, officer in charge of corpses at Tabanan Hospital in Bali, told Xinhua by phone from the hospital.

After received by health officials at Tabanan Hospital, Tan's body was sent to another hospital, Sanglah Hospital, still in Bali, said Nyoman.
