Authorities from Nanchang Hangkong University in East China's Jiangxi province confirmed that the decomposed body of a man was found at a student dormitory on the university's main campus on Wednesday afternoon, according to a report on the website of People's Daily.

The university also confirmed online rumors that the dead man was wearing silk stockings and high-heeled shoes, the report said.

Rao Guobin, head of the publicity department of Nanchang Hangkong University in Hunan province, said the man was believed to be a graduate student surnamed Peng, a resident of the dormitory where the body was discovered, according to the report.

"It was smelled foul in the room. The head of the body was covered in clothes. You saw blood and maggots moving on the floor. However, I'm not sure whether it's Peng," Zheng Qichong, Peng's classmate at the University's School of Information Engineering, was quoted as saying. Zheng had been sent to check Peng's when his parents told the school they lost contact of their son.

Police said they believe the dead man is Peng, but must wait until an autopsy is performed to identify the body.
