Guangdong proposes ban on dumping animal carcasses

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-03-14 21:14

Guangdong province is aiming to ban the dumping of animal carcasses by farmers.

The proposed policy, now open for public comment, comes after more than 6,000 dead pigs were discovered in Shanghai's Huangpu River.

Drawn up by Guangdong's legislative affairs office, the draft clearly states that infected livestock or the carcasses of animals that die from viruses or unknown reasons must undergo testing for hazards.

The regulation also would require county and district governments and above to allocate funds for disease prevention and quarantine every year.

A database of animal immunization would also be set up.
