Macao's trade deficit reaches $845.1m in Nov

MACAO - Macao recorded a trade deficit of 6.75 billion patacas ($845.1 million) in November as merchandise import increased by 17 percent year-on-year to 7.5 billion patacas ($939 million), according to the latest figures released by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Total merchandise export for November amounted to 746 million patacas ($93.4 million), with value of domestic export decreasing by 13 percent to 154 million patacas ($19.28 million), the figures showed.

Meanwhile, total value of merchandise export in the first eleven months of 2013 rose by nine percent year-on-year to 8.18 billion patacas ($1.02 billion), value of re-exports increased by 18 percent, but that of domestic exports decreased by 13 percent.

Analyzed by destination, value of merchandise export to Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland in the first eleven months of 2013 increased by 14 percent and 20 percent respectively, while export to United States and the EU decreased by 30 percent and 11 percent, the DSEC said.

In the first 11 months of 2013, total value of merchandise import grew by 14 percent to 73.04 billion patacas ($9.14 billion). Merchandise trade deficit widened to 64.86 billion patacas ($8.12 billion) for the first 11 months of 2013, the figures indicated.
