BEIJING - China's centrally-administered state-owned enterprises jointly donated 3.77 billion yuan ($598.41 million) for charitable work in 2011, the state assets watchdog said Friday.

The money came from 108 of the 117 central SOEs which are overseen by the State Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, according to a statement posted on the SASAC's website.

The figure represents a decline from 4.2 billion yuan of donations made by central SOEs in 2010.

About 2 billion yuan, or 53.28 percent of last year's donations, went to public welfare causes, while about 1.25 billion yuan, or 33.09 percent of the donations, was used for disaster relief and poverty reduction.

China National Offshore Oil Corp Ltd, the country's largest offshore oil producer, topped the list for its donation of 733.89 million yuan.

There were eight central SOEs whose donations exceeded 100 million yuan last year, 17 less than the previous year, according to the statement.
