军民融合发展(jūnmín rónghé fāzhǎn): Integrated military and civilian development

China Daily | Updated: 2017-01-24 07:22

According to a decision made at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee on Sunday, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Party, will head a newly formed central commission for integrated military and civilian development.

The commission will be the central agency tasked with decision-making, deliberation and coordination on major issues regarding integrated military and civilian development.

The 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) has advanced the strategy of integrated military and civilian development, in order to form a total factor, multi-field and highly efficient development pattern.

Integrated military and civilian development was raised to the level of a national strategy at the beginning of 2016.

From the perspective of national security and strategy, making integrated military and civilian development a national strategy is a significant decision to achieve the unifying of the nation and establish a strong military during the process of building a well-off society in an all-round way, which is the country's immediate goal of social development.

The establishment of the central commission for integrated military and civilian development is a key step.
