Hukou Waterfall reopens to visitors after flood

Xinhua | Updated: 2017-07-31 13:15

XI'AN — The Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River reopened to tourists Sunday, after torrential rain in Northwest China's Shaanxi province caused the river to flood last week.

The waterfall was closed to visitors from July 26 due to flooding in northern parts of the province.

As of Saturday, 10 people had died and one remained missing after flooding hit the city of Yulin, on the upper reaches of Yellow River.

The Hukou Waterfall, about 46 km west of the country seat Jixian, is a well-known tourist attraction. It sits in a narrow, precipitous gorge and is known for rapid water speeds creating thunderous sounds.
