HEFEI  -- Eight people have been confirmed dead and six others rescued after an unfinished building collapsed in east China's Anhui Province on Thursday, local authorities said late Friday.

The sudden collapse of the fourth floor of the Shengyuan Plaza building caused the entire structure to fall at 8:30 pm on Thursday, burying a total of 14 workers, said a source with the Tongcheng municipal government.

As of 4 pm, all 14 buried workers had been located, including eight who had died.

The six survivors are being treated in local hospitals and are in stable condition.
