5.9-magnitude quake hits Philippines

MANILA -- An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted the Philippines on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The USGS said the tremor struck at 3:08 p.m, and the epicenter, with a depth of 42 km, was located northeast of the Mindoro province.

The quake was felt in Calapan in Mindoro province, Batangas Province, and the Philippine capital of Manila.

So far there are no reports of casualties and damage from the quake-stricken areas, but power blackout in parts of Luzon island is reported.
