Li Na has begun to recover from the slump that followed her French Open victory last year. Her reluctance to enter the doubles has provoked concerns about her sometimes-volatile temperament and led to questions about how it will affect her run in the singles.

Zheng Jie, 29

Birth place: Chengdu, Sichuan province

Highlights: Two-time Grand Slam doubles champion (2006 Australian Open and Wimbledon)

2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medal in doubles (with former partner Yan Zi )

Zheng seemed comfortable as she advanced to the third round at Wimbledon. She will return to the All-England Club hoping to make a deep run in both the singles and doubles.

Peng Shuai, 26

Birth place: Tianjin

Highlights: 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games singles and team champion

Injuries have affected Peng's performance on the WTA Tour this season and have diminished her perceived chances in London in the singles and doubles tournaments. Sill, she will try to deliver at least a medal in doubles with Zheng.
