Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei to have unified water environment monitoring network

Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will develop a coordinated mechanism in 2016 to coordinate water pollution prevention and control in the region and its surrounding areas. They will also build an unified water environment monitoring network by the end of 2017.

The mechanism was outlined in the recently released Work Plan on Beijing Water Pollution Prevention and Control, with focuses on the work mechanisms involving monitoring, pre-warning, information sharing and emergency response.

According to the plan, Beijing is cooperating with Zhangjiakou and Chengde in Hebei province to protect sources of drinking water, create clean reservoirs, push forward the rivers corriders’ ecological treatment together.

Beijing will release safety information on centralized drinking water to the public every season beginning in 2016, and all districts and towns will release drinking water safety information starting in 2018.
