Nadia Binti Majid

I am Nadia Majid, I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I would consider myself lucky as I was exposed and be a part of diverse culture ever since I was small. Malaysia consists of at least 10 different races with Malay, Chinese and Indian being the 3 major race. I was educated in a government Chinese school, where I learn Chinese language to pick up the third language. It is uncommon for a Malay to study in a Chinese school, therefore I felt proud of myself for being able to mingle and being around students of different races.

It is in my wildest dream to come to China to further my tertiary studies, but I believe in “going with the flow”. After I finished my secondary studies, I have achieved an outstanding academic result which qualifies me for scholarships to further my studies. I studied Chinese language for another year in Beijing Language and Culture University and later in Renmin University of China, majoring in Business Administration. I have met many people from different countries and backgrounds and learned so many things from them. I have been to many places during my past years studying in China, including Harbin, Lanzhou, Shanghai, HongKong, Kunming etc. Through travelling, I have encountered many types of people with different stories, some are fortunate and most are unfortunate, it changes the way I view my problems now. Furthermore, I went on a Student Exchange Program in VrijeUniversiteitAmsterdam for 6 months and came back with a handful of priceless experience.

I would categorize the time I’ve spent in China as precious and valuable, I would not exchange it for something else. I was taught to be independent and strong as I live far away from my friends and family. Mainland Chinese are no doubt very competitive, at times I have to admit I was stressed out by their working attitude. I was not exactly culture shocked, but I was not used to this kind of environment. I am more of a laid back person but now all I do is chasing time and completing tasks. However, I am grateful for this because it has changed me in many ways.

I aspire to change my country, Malaysia when I go back home and transform it into a better country. I especially intended to change the life of the unfortunate and also helping animals and nature.
