Is spanking children the right thing to do?

Not that I would likely spank my own child. I think good parents can avoid that. A child will inevitably disobey once in a while; there are other means to discipline him or her. Spanking is a last resort. It doesn’t have to be violent.

The trouble is that in the West things always go way beyond target. Instead of educating parents on how to raise their children to be civic-minded, we enact laws to constrain adults. You can no longer punish your own child with impunity. Even foreign visitors - such as Chinese families! – might end up having a brush with the local law if their parents took punitive measures against their own children while on holiday in some western country.
