Indonesia coal-fired power project breaks ground

A coal-fired power project led by SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Corporation began construction on Aug 7 in Indonesia's West Kalimantan.

The Kalbar–1 power station, a cooperation project between Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of Indonesian power utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara and China's leading new energy enterprise Golden Concord Holdings Ltd, will include two ultra–high pressure coal-fired units with output of 100 megawatts respectively.

The Kalbar–1 power station, part of Indonesia's power supply, plans to reach 35,000 megawatts of power capacity by 2020. It will be constructed by SEPCOIII, CCCC Third Harbor Consultants Co and some Indonesian companies.

In addition to the power plant, the project includes the construction of a 2–kilometer road into the plant, 30–kilometers of power transmission lines and the transformer of substations.

SEPCOIII, the first Chinese Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor, began to tap into Indonesia's power market in 2006, since when the company has constructed three projects in Bandung, Panou and Muara Jawa.
