A team of officials led by Laos Vice Premier Dr. Bounsthong Chitmany inspected the Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Plant on Feb 7, which was built by POWERCHINA Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co, Ltd.
The inspection team visited the powerhouse and the dam construction site. The officials also learned more about the project construction and problems concerning ecological flow after impoundment.
The project department reported on the process of the construction, plans for the next steps, building progress of the newly added delivering route and conditions of the resettlement task. Questions were also answered relating to production arrangements, employment and staff training.
At present, the hydropower plant is in full swing to realize the target of water storage and power generation this year. It is now supported by personnel and technologies from China Southern Power Grid. More than 40 staff will be employed as the main force for the plant operation.
Dr. Bounsthong Chitmany said that the large-scale hydropower plant located in Bokeo is important for local power demand and economic development, which also reflects friendship between China and Laos. He expected POWERCHINA to continue the work with high standards in every aspect and said local government departments would offer corresponding support.
The project department also expressed thanks for the care and support of Laos officials and said they would live up to expectations with good results.
