Construction underway on inverter grid-connected PV power station

Updated: 2016-12-19

On Aug 1, construction commenced on the world’s first high-altitude inverter unified grid-connected PV power station - the Tibet Shigatse Gangba 20-megawatts Grid-connected PV Power Station Project, by Sichuan Electric Power Design & Consultation Company, an affiliated company of POWERCHINA.

The Shigatse Gamba 120-megawatts Photovoltaic and Solar-thermal Power Station and Solar Thermal Surplus Heat Heating Project are situated on pastureland around Gangba County. The 20-megawatt PV Project site is situated 3 kilometers west of the county, at an altitude of around 4600m. The project construction plays a significant role in converting photovoltaic and solar resources into economic gain in the remote areas of Tibet, promoting social and economic development in the region and improving local residents’ living standards as well as enhancing national unity.

The invert-transform unified medium-voltage box inverter has been reported to be a leading integration method in the photovoltaic power generation industry in recent years. It can reduce intermediate links, making the inversion booster system simpler and reliable. Equipment integration shortens construction time and cost.

During the project, Sichuan Electric Power Design & Consultation Company took the first steps in testing the program at an altitude of 4600m. Combined with in-depth technology research with the global leading inverter enterprise “Sungrow”, transformer enterprise “ABB”, as well as its rich experience in high-altitude engineering, Sichuan Electric Power Design & Consultation Company proposed constructive advice and improved on some poorly thought out application details of new equipment, clearing obstacles that had been hindering the project’s progress.
