A series of policies aimed at increasing benefits for the elderly in Fujian province have been rolled out, Strait News reported.

The scheme covers sectors ranging from finance to transport and medical treatment.

Seniors above the age of 80 will get monthly subsidies based on specific situations and for centenarians it will be at least 300 yuan per month. They will also get a bonus of 1,000 yuan on Seniors’ Day, or the Double-Ninth Festival.

For those aged 65 or above, health institutions will compile records for free and offer a physical checkup and consulting service at least once a year.

Public transport will also improve as there will be free bus rides for all over 70, and for some places the threshold will be 65. Local governments will be encouraged to buy insurance for elderly passengers.

Financial institutions will open green channels for old people and provide a consulting service while facilities for the elderly will be planned in new residential communities.
