Ningde Global Geopark, in Ningde city, Fujian province, passed its mid-term assessment from the Global Network of National Geoparks of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which was announced in the sixth international Geopark conference held in Saint John Trade & Convention Centre, Toronto, Canada on Sept 23.

It was selected as a member of Global Geoparks in October, 2010, and it was the first time for the park to receive and pass the quadrennial mid-term assessment.

The assessment experts evaluated the Global Geopark members mainly in three aspects – management, geographical relic conservation, and sustainable development.

Ningde Geopark, covering an area of 264,000 hectares, consists of three parts – Baishuiyang scenic spot in Pingnan county, Baiyun Mountain in Fu'an city, and Taimu Mountain in Fuding city.

Mount Lunlun Geopark, in Qinghai province, was approved as a new Global Geoparks member at the conference on Sept 23.
