Pingnan establishes charity federation

A charity federation was set up on June 24 in Pingnan county, Fujian province. It has 159 members and has collected charity funds of 24.73 million yuan ($3.96 million).

The federation's fund-raising work has received strong support from provincial and city charity federations, local government as well as the public. In addition to the initial fund supported by the Pingnan government, the federation has received 5.59 million yuan ($900,000) from 11 enterprises, 354,000 yuan ($56,675) from 11 towns, and 787,000 yuan ($126,000) from 40 companies.

The charity federation aims to help poor rural families, older people who are alone, poor students and orphans, and funnel charitable funds to agricultural subsidies, disaster relief and medical assistance.
