A group of experts from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) came to Baishuiyang and Yuanyangxi scenic spots in Ningde city, Fujian province, on July 18, to conduct a mid-term assessment of Ningde Global Geopark.

Wu Yunming, head of Pingnan county, spoke to the experts about the conditions of Pingnan and the assessment preparation work in Baishuiyang and Yuanyangxi scenic spots. The experts said that Pingnan had unique geographical and cultural advantages to protect and construct a Global Geopark and they would submit an integrated assessment report to UNESCO.

UNESCO conducts an assessment of the Global Geopark members every four years. The assessment aims to inspect the parks in management, infrastructure, preservation of geological relics, and the promotion of local tourism and geology, in order to summarize and improve the development of Global Geoparks.
