In the two villages, where the rivers supply Pingnan’s urban areas with fresh water, agricultural pollution, domestic pollution and pollution caused by livestock and poultry farming need to be contained.

CPPCC Pingnan county committee brought forward a proposal to tackle the water pollution problems at the beginning of this year.

During the committee’s conference on June 23, local CPPCC members gave advice in many areas. They suggested that a long-term mechanism on water source protection be set up. The government should allocate funds for sewage and refuse disposal, relocate pig farms, ban mining, put up warning signs, and residents living in near the water source areas should be relocated and their living standard elevated.

The local government appropriated funds and created policies to regulate and protect the water source. To guarantee water quality, Pingnan county monitors the source of urban public drinking water every month, and monitor the source of suburban public drinking water every year. This year, there is a greening program of building man-made forests of 3,000 mu (200 hectares) and closing hillsides to facilitate forestation of 5,000 mu (333 hectares) along the rivers in Lingxia township, Pingnan county.
