Recently, officials from the environment monitoring team, disease control center, and the performance office, in Pingnan county went to the towns of Lingxia and Xiling, and other water source conservations, to gather information on plant protection, sanitary improvement and water source quality.
Related departments in Pingnan county, one of the monitored counties under the central government’s rural drinking water subsidy project, go to towns regularly to do thorough surveys on water supply ability and water quality during low and high water periods.
A small number of towns have not done their work well in environment protection, as the sample water is too muddy and contains too many visible impurities and microbes. Others have not done well in maintaining infrastructure nor educating people to use water in the correct way, thus the pipe network has aged and water supply has suffered from shortfalls during low water periods. In tackling such problems, the administrative authorities, towns and administrative villages are going to tighten up water supply management.
They will clean the reservoirs regularly and make sure water is disinfected before being used, thus improving the quality of the drinking water. Moreover, they are planning to publicize the right ways of using water to raise farmer awareness to use water safely. In addition, better protection of water sources, clearer outlining of water conservation, and improved infrastructure will be needed to prevent people from catching water-related diseases and maintaining health.
