Maybe it is too early a conclusion to make, but I think Ning Hao could be a film auteur who has his own signature. People often misunderstand the term for self-centered directors, but it actually refers to those who succeed in the commercial system and converse with viewers with genre films. They make pictures that bear their unique mark. Johnnie To from Hong Kong, for example, is a film auteur.

In No Man's Land, Ning dialogues with Chinese and world cinema. There is his unique humor. Script is well written. Accidents and twists change characters' destiny, surprising the audience continuously.

Ning could have easily gained money and fame after the two Crazy films. He could just make another one. But he did not do that. He thinks a lot and challenges himself all the time.
