Cleaner picks up litter on a cliff

Chinese netizens agreed not to throw litter about after seeing a cleaner climb down a nearly vertical cliff to pick up the litter tourist threw in an image posted on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.

Peng Wencai, 44, works as the only cleaner in the cliff area of Mount Emei scenic area in Southwest China's Sichuan province from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on a daily basis.

"With the climbing rope, I often climb down the cliff, which is 3,079 meters high, two or three times every week to pick up the litter," Peng said.

Peng often climbs down from the top of the cliff to less than 300 meters from the ground to pick up litter, so it often takes him about three hours to go and return.

The cleaner reportedly picks up more than three tons of litter every year.
