Man arrested for killing six in Shanghai

Following the case, the Ministry of Public Security on Sunday ordered police authorities across the nation to step up security on the streets and make resolute efforts to stop violent crime.

Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Guo Shengkun, Minister of Public Security, ordered on Sunday to quickly investigate and find out the truth of the deadly case and make all-out efforts to save the injured people.

The two senior officials also urged enhanced efforts to resolve social disputes and crack down on violent crimes that severely endanger public security.

Also on Sunday, the Public Security Ministry held an emergent teleconference, ordering hard strike on gun and explosive-related crimes, and check and confiscate illegally-possessed guns and explosives.

Police officers are also asked to visit local residents and work together with relevant authorties to prevent and reduce social disputes at the source.

Violent criminals who endanger public security will be dealt with harshly in accordance with law, according to the minsitry.
