Illegal chemicals found in OTC medicine

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-04-09 21:48

The China Food and Drug Administration said on its website on Tuesday that it found illegal medical chemicals in 10 products registered as "tonic supplements."

The products, including tea, capsules and pills, which were labeled as pills to help consumers lose weight, lower blood sugar and increase male sexual function, were found to contain Phenolphthalein, Glibenclamide and Sildenafil - chemicals only allowed in prescribed medicines.

The administration required food and drug authorities nationwide to seize the products found in local markets and punish the manufacturers.
