Give China equal footing in international tendering

Chinese companies are fully capable of participating in big-ticket international project competition as they are backed by strong financial and technical resources accumulated from both the domestic and overseas markets over the past decade, an official said on Thursday.

Shen Danyang, a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, said China expects the Mexican government to respect international business rules and provide equal treatment to the China-Mexico joint consortium, which won the $3.75 billion high-speed rail project last November. However, Mexico abruptly cancelled the deal days later.

The new result of bidding for Mexico's high-speed train project will be announced on July 31, after the Latin American country relaunched the process on Jan 14.

Siemens AG of Germany and Canada's Bombardier Transit Corp are also planning to enter the new bidding process.

China is currently in talks with more than 20 countries such as Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia and India on potential high-speed train projects.
