Shang Cailiang is a resident of Biganling village, Lucheng district. The farming technology his family used to specialize in kept them well-off, but an unexpected illness drove them into poverty.

In early 2015 his family was identified as an impoverished household, and he has been able to enjoy agricultural subsidies and medical subsidies ever since. With the help of local government, he moved into a new residence in 2016.
