The icy Yellow River melted recently in Inner Mongolia, flowing 192 kilometers to the Sanshenggong hydro-junction and was met with over 500 kilometers of freeze-ups.

During mid-February, the average temperature was -7.4 C in the region, 2.3 C higher than the histrocial record of the same period, according to local meteorological departments.

Thanks to the warm weather, the sector of the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia melted earlier than usual but has been in a stable state.

To reduce the menace of up-coming ice jams, water conservancies should constantly monitor the ice state and forcast discharging capacities, according to the Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters of Inner Mongolia.

It’s estimated that the Yellow River will thaw in mid-March in the region.
