The problem is people who go abroad and just hang out with their own countrymen learn nothing. The ones who actively integrate will find this to be a very rewarding experience. Sadly, from my experience of Chinese students in Glasgow, many just created a mini China within the city, complete with baozi, malatang etc...they never tried local food, they never left their comfort zone and in the end got nothing out of the experience. This is a waste of time.

I’ve lived in China for quite a considerable time including my graduate school years, travelled and worked in a few cities and still choose my destination taking into consideration the density of smog or PM2.5 particulate matter in the region.
