Spicy eating contest

Beijing's first annual hot-sausage eating contest is set for May 14, with organizers promising "beers, hot sauce and love". There's a 50 yuan entry fee (first 12 signups only), with a 500-yuan prize plus Arrow Factory beers and gift cards from Meatball Factory. There will be DJs and raffles during the event.

World Malbec Day

They say wine is in Argentina's blood, and the country has even created an international festival for its famed malbec grapes. World Malbec Day, observed in Argentina on Saturday, was observed in Shanghai at tastings on Thursday and comes to Beijing this weekend, with a cambalache (bazaar) organized by Wave Club and Wines of Argentina, featuring the country's wines and foods as well as some tango fun.
