200,000 commit suicide annually due to depression

Depression has become one of the most common mental diseases in China and more than 200,000 people commit suicide yearly because of it, China Comment magazine reported on Wednesday.

A recent case reported was of Xu Xing, 35, deputy editor-in-chief of Metro Express, who committed suicide in his office because of depression.

Experts said depression could be prevented and treated and people should pay more attention to it in order to avoid such tragedies.

Experts said that government officials and white-collar workers are at high risk of depression as they experience much work pressure, and those who suffer the ailment should seek psychological counseling and medical treatment.
